Faculty settles suit against Life out of court
From staff and wire reports
MARIETTA - A lawsuit accusing Life University of anti-Semitism was settled out of court Wednesday.
Three former professors and one part-time professor at the Marietta chiropractic college filed the civil suit in U.S. District Court in Dec. 2001, claiming they were discriminated against because they were Jewish. Bruce Harman, Bert Silverman, Donald Gutstein and Dennis Ralin claimed in the suit that they were treated less favorably than other, non-Jewish employees.
The suit also claimed decisions to demote the plaintiffs and terminate their employment were based on religious discrimination.
The plaintiffs sought the reinstatement of their former jobs, back pay, punitive damages, compensatory damages and attorneys' fees.
The details of the lawsuit were not available by press time Thursday.
